This is one of the biggest concerns older clients have when they walk into our clinic. They believe that they can’t get scalp micropigmentation done because their hair is graying.
But this is nothing but a myth. We’ve had over a hundred clients come to us even though they had gray hair. So, does scalp micropigmentation work for graying hair? Yes, it does. How long does it last and will the results be different from black hair? Let’s take a look: Pigment and Skin TonesDuring SMP procedure, the practitioner will use a special handheld tool and inject small pigments into the hair follicles of the client. For those who have dark hair, we will implant a dark shade to their hair follicle. This has no side effects and you don’t have to worry about it being painful or harmful in any way. All we have to do is apply more pigment around the hair follicle and not into the scalp. After the practitioner has added the pigment, they will blend it with the hair follicle so that the shade complements or matches the skin tone of the person. If your hair is graying but has not become completely gray, there won’t be any problems because the practitioner will match it with the color of your hair follicles. Will I Be Able to Choose the Shade for My Scalp? This is another question we get. If you go for a tattoo, you’ll get different shades and options. Scalp micropigmentation is similar to tattooing but differs in the pigments and tools used. The practitioner will work with different pigments that will suit your skin tone and the results will come out accordingly. But since the practitioner is a professional and has years of experience, you will need to discuss everything with them. During the initial consultation, you will be able to discuss options with your practitioner. You can openly discuss all of your concerns with them and choose from a variety of options. If you have concerns regarding graying hair, you need to discuss it with your practitioner. Since SMP gives you a “cropped hair/buzz cut” look, you will need to shave your head to maintain the look. However, the good news is that shaved hair follicles are gray in color so you won’t need to worry about the SMP looking odd or out of place. So, there you go! We hope that answers your questions. You can also come back for re-adjustments and most people come back to get their pigment color changed as they age. Also, SMP does not affect hair growth so some people grow out their hair and rock the “salt n pepper” look! If you’re looking for an exceptional scalp micropigmentation service in Miami, you have come to the right place! Stevey G is renowned for providing some of the best SMP treatments. He also offers training programs for practitioners who want to hone their skills. To book your appointment, or to learn more, feel free to give us a call.
