Introduction of Vedic astrology, its origin, and how it has evolved over the years:
Vedic astrology is a system of astrology that originated in ancient India and later spread to other parts of Asia. It is based on the Hindu concept of the divine cycles of time called the Kalpa. Vedic astrology primarily uses sidereal zodiacs based on astronomy. The word Jyotish means light and knowledge. It also means the science of light or astronomy. It is considered one of the six Vedangas or ancillary sciences connected with Vedic studies. Vedic astrology is the study of the position of the stars and planets at the time of a person's birth. It is believed that the patterns of these heavenly bodies mirror the state of a person‘s karmic imprint, just as the patterns of biological DNA mirror the state of one‘s health. The influence of the stars, just like that of the sun and moon, can predict some potential events in life. Vedic astrology is one of the oldest forms of astrology, with its origins dating back to at least 1500 BCE. The study has evolved from an ancient system to a more modernized form. The Difference Between Jyotish and Western Astrology: One of the differences between Jyotish and Western Astrology is that Jyotish is based on the sidereal zodiac, which differs from the western system by about 23 degrees. Also, while in the western system, much emphasise is given to the sun (it is said that a person „is“ a Taurus, if the sun is in Taurus), in the Vedic system, the moon, as well as the Ascendent is a more important indicator of one’s personality. In addition to the 12 solar constellations, Vedic Astrology also uses 27 lunar constellations, or Nakshatras. These can give more details on the state of the unconscious mind, emotions and karmic imprints. Vedic Astrology has a lot of influence from Indian culture, which means that the meaning of the stars and constellations are connected to a rich Indian mythology, full of Archetypes and Symbols. It is a complex system that uses not only one‘s birth chart but many other devisions of it too, in order to look more closely at the differnt areas of one‘s life. The planets and their influences in Vedic astrology: The 9 heavenly bodies (Grahas) are a major influence in Vedic astrology. Their position in the signs and houses and their relationship to one another are the most important factor in determining a person's fate. The Grahas also represent different aspecs of the whole person and how this aspect manifests in the world. Planets have various influences in Vedic Astrology. They de-code ones karmic patters and show which area of life are strong and which are in need of supporting energies. These supporting energies can also be prescribed, in order to balance out any negative karma as much as possible. The zodiac signs, the houses and their influences: The zodiac signs, the houses, and their influences are important if you want to understand yourself better. They can provide you with information on your personality type, strengths, weaknesses, health, karma and potential in life. The 12 zodiac signs are broken up into four different groups of 3 - each group is assigned a different element. Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), and water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces).
